The Holland Arts East Gallery is pleased to present A Healing Body: Water, a solo art exhibit by Bri Harrington.

A Healing Body: Water

We intuitively understand the healing power of water. For centuries, people have gravitated toward rivers, lakes, and oceans to support their well-being and communities. Research shows that living near a large body of water can significantly impact longevity, reducing stress and enhancing mental clarity. This exhibit invites us to reflect how we can become better stewards of this vital resource. By protecting and conserving water, we ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy its healing properties.

Bri Harrington is an avid hiker, meditator and wellness coach. Her work explores the interconnectedness of all beings with curiosity and compassion through field studies of the natural world and contemplations on our innate desire for happiness and pleasure. Currently, her work is focused on the emerging intersection of art and wellbeing, and environmental advocacy.

A Healing Body: Water runs February 1st-March 3rd and can be viewed during Yellowbird Coffee Bar’s hours of operation, Mon-Fri 7am-5pm, Sat-Sun 8am-5pm.

Art Exhibit: The Lives of People and Things

The Holland Arts East Gallery is pleased to present The Lives of People and Things, a duo exhibition by artists Patricia Choffrut and Carlota Estevez.

About the Exhibit:

The artists in this exhibition are exploring life in people and life in things. The paintings of people represent them living their lives. What are their struggles, what are their dreams? Likewise, the paintings of “things” do not simply show material objects but also represent ways of living: what do people do with these things, why do they find them beautiful, where do they come from.

The Lives of People and Things runs March 4th-April 1st and can be viewed during Yellowbird Coffee Bar’s hours of operation, Mon-Fri 7am-5pm, Sat-Sun 8am-5pm. An opening reception will be held March 7th in the Gallery from 6pm-8pm.

About Patricia Choffrut: Patricia is a professional watercolor artist whose work has been featured and won awards in local and national exhibitions over the past 20 years. Patricia’s work is impressionist/representational in style; when she does a painting, she chooses a focus and then hopes to connect the elements around it with some free flow of water and pigment across the page. The excitement of this water-based painting for many who like watercolor lies in the surprises that the water produces as it grabs the pigment and moves around on the paper.

Notable awards Patricia has won include Best of Show and Best of Division, twice, St Louis County Fair; Award of Merit, twice, also Bea Kotz Second Place Award, and Honorable Mention Award, Northstar Watercolor Society, where her awards have given her signature membership; Award of Merit, Hopkins Center for the Arts, Members’ Show; Honorable Mention, White Bear Plein Air Exhibition. Patricia is a member of Northstar Watermedia Society, Minnesota Watercolor Society, White Bear Arts Center, Hopkins Center for the Arts, Minnetonka Arts Center, Central Minnesota Watercolor Society. She has also participated in statewide art fairs and private sales events, taught classes, workshops, and watercolor demonstrations in Minnesota and other states.

To purchase or commission work by Patricia, please contact the artist directly.

About Carlota Estevez: Carlota Estevez is an artist from Argentina living in Minnesota since 1995. Following Picasso rather than Dali, her works move beyond traditional realistic models in representational painting towards the creation of new images and ideas.

With varied experience in different media, she is not afraid of mixing materials and techniques. Her current work is primarily in oil and watercolor.  In her paintings,  Carlota  starts with an overall design that allows her to be  loose and free to make changes when needed. Her goal is to play with colors and forms, brushstrokes and thick paint, focusing on what she needs to make each painting “breathe”.

Carlota has participated in several shows and fine art exhibitions, including  Minnesota State Fair  Fine Arts Competitions, American Impressionist Society, Northern Lights Juried Art Exhibitions, Vital Art Sessions first online competition ( 2018 , Honorable Mention, Judge: Gregg Kreuz ), Bold Brush International Contests, “Into Nature” Plein Air Competition (2024,  “Best Watercolor” , Judge:  Michele Combs), The Gateway International painting Competition  ( finalist, January,2020) ,  Art reach Alliance (Stillwater), White Bear Center for the Arts (White Bear Lake, MN).

Each were "found" in diverse settings, from estate sales to flea markets, and "collected" into an exploration of artistic heritage.

Art Exhibit: Wish You Were Here

The Holland Arts East Gallery is pleased to present Wish You Were Here, a solo art exhibit by Julia Klatt Singer.  The exhibit runs October 1st-October 30th and can be viewed during Yellowbird Coffee Bar’s hours of operation, Mon-Fri 7am-5pm, Sat-Sun 8am-5pm. Please join us October 10th from 6pm-8pm for the exhibit reception.

About the Exhibit and Artist Statement:

Wish You Were Here is a set of abstract paintings based on images taken from NASA satellites of earth; ocean currents, deltas, smoke, ice, and biospheres. Taken from above, they are a vertical look at our planet, the distance away giving us a patchworked, layered view of our world.

Wish you Were Here is also a set of smaller (8 x 8) abstract paintings made from impressions of photos taken while driving highway 12, west, from Minnesota to the Pacific coast of Oregon. Taken from a car window, literal drive-bys, they are aiming for the horizon.

Both sets of these paintings explore how distance and light play into the way we see things. Colors merge and blur, light lays shadows and our eyes search for shape, for recognition; finding a beauty in patterns, curves and lines both natural and human-made.

There is so much beauty around us, but often we are too busy or too close to see it.  Stepping back, moving through a landscape, both near and far, changes our view of things, changes how we see it and in that seeing we notice the world; all the blues and earth tones, all they ways colors separate and connect. And how the boundaries are both solid and arbitrary.

I think this is why we travel.  To see something new about our world, to see it in a new way. And often seeing it means wanting to share it with someone else. So we take a picture.  We send a postcard. We commit it to memory. Even when we know we can’t keep it, can’t capture it, not exactly as we are experiencing it, we try.  Because experience is made of feelings, and feelings like air and light, wind and rain, shadows and time, are impossible to pin down. So we do the best we can. We point it out.  We tell someone about it. We photograph it. We paint it. And we wish you were here.

In a River the Color of Lead is an exhibition of new paintings by Minneapolis-based artist Preston Palmer.

Inspired by 17th-century Dutch Vanitas paintings, Palmer wanted to create a deeply personal body of work. He uses a variety of symbolic objects and imagery to evoke memories of the past and foreshadow an unknown future.

With this series of paintings, Palmer aims to confront both himself and his audience with the complexities of emotion and the human experience, capturing moments of vulnerability and discomfort in a stark and visceral way.

Join us at Holland Arts East Gallery on August 15th from 6pm to 8pm for the opening reception. Artwork will be available to view Mon-Fri from 7am to 5pm and Sat-Sun from 8am to 5pm from August 8th to August 29th.
